Free Essays on The Illegalization Of Abortion

The Illegalization of Abortion Many have pondered upon the meaning of abortion. The argument being that every child born should be wanted, and others who believe that every child conceived should be born (Sass vii). This has been a controversial topic for years. Many people want to be able to decide the destiny of others. Everyone in the United States is covered under the United States constitution, and under the 14th Amendment women have been given the choice of abortion. In 1973, Harry A. Blackmun wrote the majority opinion that it's a women's right to have an abortion. Roe v. Wade legalized abortion. Even though these people have been given the right, the case is not closed. Pro-life activists carry a strong argument, and continue to push their beliefs. They feel so strongly about these beliefs that violence has broken out in some known instances. Pro-choice activists, on the other hand, also carry very strong points. They believe that the child inside them is their property and it's life doesn't be until birth. In 1973, the United States Supreme Court decided that as long as the baby lived in the womb, he or she would be the property of the mother. Because of this decision almost every third baby conceived in America is killed by abortion, over one and a half million babies a year (Willke vii). Many countries have followed our decision on the abortion issue and some of these include Canada, England, and France. Other countries still believe abortion should be illegal, they include Germany, Ireland, and New Zealand. Although many believe that abortion is a women's choice, abortion should be banned because its immoral and life begins at conception. Free Essays on The Queen Of Scots

Mary was dubbed the ‘the daughter of debate’ by her cousin, Elizabeth I. Does this description accurately reflect the Queen of Scots? In order to establish whether or not Elizabeth’s description ‘the daughter of debate’ accurately reflects the Queen of Scots it is necessary to firstly examine who Mary was, considering early events in her life including her succession to the throne and her departure to France. Consideration must then be given to Elizabeth with a brief look at her succession to the throne and a more in depth look at what the early relationship between the two monarchs was like and considering the question was Mary obsessed with the throne of England? My focus, however are the events in her life up to and including what Wormald calls ‘the major scandals of 1566-7’ (2001:147). These events that have sparked debate include what were the reasons behind Mary’s marriage to Lord Darnley? Did she as accused commit adultery, and was she involved in the murder of her husband? Did she then marry Bothwell willingly or was she forced? What led Mary to resign her crown to he r infant son? Finally did Elizabeth call Mary ‘the daughter of debate’ and if so in what context? Wormald remarks that Mary Queen of Scots from the very start created uncertainty even before her distinctive character emerged (2001:12). Interestingly the first detail in Mary Stewart’s life under debate is the date of her birth. Mary’s birth date is recorded as the 8th of December 15421 however Fraser remarks that it has been suggested she was actually born on 7th December 1542 and the date was changed to occur with the feast of the virgin (1970:32/33). Mary herself saw her birthday to be the 8th2. Mary was the daughter of King James V and became Queen of Scotland when only six days old. Characterizing Carbonated Soft Drink Industry in the US Case Study - 35

Characterizing Carbonated Soft Drink Industry in the US - Case Study Example According to the paper, the major soft drink companies include Coca-Cola and Pepsi. These companies are distributed all over the country each having branches and distributers in cities and towns. For instance, Coca-Cola North America and the Bottling Company of Southern California introduced Fanta and Manzana Lift. This came about because a research conducted showed that fruit-flavored drinks were the best choice for many Hispanics. Therefore, these two drinks are the ones that met the consumers’ preferences. Pepsi, a stiff competitor has Mountain Dew, which is the fourth best-selling soft drink in the U.S and best-flavored drink. To improve its marketing, they have commercials that only focus on the Hispanics among other diverse advertisements because ethnic markets are so profitable for these firms. This brand focuses mostly on teens and the 20-39 year population is its secondary market. Squirt soft drink originates from Great Depression of 1930 but Cadbury Schweppes was the main marketer for Squirt since 1993 until Dr. Pepper/Seven Up, Inc. took over since 1995. The drink came to market in 1938 and to heighten its market, the owners introduced an appeal called little squirt for advertisements, hence popularizing its recognition. After change of ownership in 1977, the drink rebranded its logo and due to new upcoming trends, squirt made the first low calorie drink in 1983. Squirt is bottled and distributed by 250 bottlers in America, a third are independent and some owned by Dr. Pepper/Seven Up, Inc. whereas two-thirds are part of Coca-Cola and Pepsi. This wide distribution makes it possible for supply of the product amounting to over 85% of Americans’ soft drink by volume. Squirt has a diverse range of products with diet and ruby red Squirts being the leading products having generated 20% of the total sales. Its products compete stiffly with those of Coca-Cola and Pepsi in the market.

The companys clothing and shoe designs typically feature Essay Example for Free

The companys clothing and shoe designs typically feature Essay Adidas was founded in 1948 by Adolf Dassler, following the split of Gebrà ¼der Dassler Schuhfabrik between him and his older brother Rudolf. Rudolf later established Puma, which was the early rival of Adidas. Registered in 1949, Adidas is currently based in Herzogenaurach, Germany. Puma is also based in Herzogenaurach. The companys clothing and shoe designs typically feature three parallel bars, and the same motif is incorporated into Adidass current official logo. The company revenue for 2012 was listed at â‚ ¬14.48 billion. History Gebrà ¼der Dassler Schuhfabrik Christoph Von Wilhelm Dassler was a worker in a shoe factory, while his wife Pauline ran a small laundry in the Bavarian town of Herzogenaurach, 20 km (12. 4 mi) from the city of Nuremberg. After leaving school, their son, Rudolf Rudi Dassler, joined his father at the shoe factory. When he returned from fighting in World War I, Rudolf received a management position at a porcelain factory, and later in a leather wholesale business in Nuremberg. Adolf Adi Dassler started to produce his own sports shoes in his mothers wash kitchen in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria after his return from World War I. In July 1924, his brother Rudolf returned to Herzogenaurach to join his younger brothers business, which became Gebrà ¼der Dassler Schuhfabrik (Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory) and prospered. The pair started the venture in their mothers laundry,[6]:5 but, at the time, electricity supplies in the town were unreliable, and the brothers sometimes had to use pedal power from a stationary bicycle to run their equipment. By the 1936 Summer Olympics, Adi Dassler drove from Bavaria on one of the worlds first motorways to the Olympic village with a suitcase full of spikes and persuaded U.S. sprinter Jesse Owens to use them, the first sponsorship for an African American. Following Owenss haul of four gold medals, his success cemented the good reputation of Dassler shoes among the worlds most famous sportsmen. Letters from around the world landed on the brothers desks, and the trainers of other national teams were all interested in their shoes. Business boomed and the Dasslers were selling 200,000 pairs of shoes each year before World War II. World War II and company split Both brothers joined the Nazi Party, but Rudolf was slightly closer to the party than Adolf. During the war, a growing rift between the pair reached a breaking point after an Allied bomb attack in 1943, when Adi and his wife climbed into a bomb shelter that Rudolf and his family were already in: The dirty bastards are back again, Adi said, referring to the Allied war planes, but Rudolf was convinced his brother meant him and his family.[9] After Rudolf was later picked up by American soldiers and accused of being a member of the Waffen SS, he was convinced that his brother had turned him in. The Dassler factory, used for production of anti-tank weapons during the war, was nearly destroyed by US forces in April 1945, but was spared when Adi Dasslers wife, Kà ¤the, convinced the GIs that the company and its employees were only interested in manufacturing sports shoes. American occupying forces subsequently became major buyers of the Dassler brothers shoes. The brothers split up in 1947, with Rudi forming a new firm that he called Ruda – from Rudolf Dassler, later rebranded Puma, and Adi forming a company formally registered as Adidas AG from Adi Dassler on 18 August 1949. Although it is popularly claimed that the name is an acronym for All Day I Dream About Soccer, that phrase is a backronym; the name is actually a portmanteau formed from Adi (a nickname for Adolf) and Das (from Dassler). Early years and rivalry with Puma Puma and Adidas entered a fierce and bitter rivalry after the split. The town of Herzogenaurach was divided on the issue, leading to the nickname the town of bent necks—people looked down to see which shoes strangers wore. Even the towns two football clubs were divided: ASV Herzogenaurach club supported Adidas, while 1 FC Herzogenaurach endorsed Rudolfs footwear. When handymen were called to Rudolfs home, they would deliberately wear Adidas shoes. Rudolf would tell them to go to the basement and pick out a pair of free Pumas. The two brothers never reconciled, and although both are buried in the same cemetery, they are spaced apart as far as possible.[citation needed] In 1948, the first football match after World War II, several members of the West German national football team wore Puma boots, including the scorer of West Germanys first post-war goal, Herbert Burdenski. Four years later, at the 1952 Summer Olympics, 1500 metres runner Josy Barthel of Luxembourg won Pumas first Olympic gold in Helsinki, Finland. The original Adidas logo until 1997, it is now used on Adidas Originals At the 1960 Summer Olympics Puma paid German sprinter Armin Hary to wear Pumas in the 100 metre sprint final. Hary had worn Adidas before and asked Adolf for payment, but Adidas rejected this request. The German won gold in Pumas, but then laced up Adidas for the medals ceremony, to the shock of the two Dassler brothers. Hary hoped to cash in from both, but Adi was so enraged he banned the Olympic champion.

Essay --

By definition; Classroom management: a term used by teachers to describe the process of ensuring that classroom lessons run smoothly despite disruptive behavior by students. Classroom management is a very big part of teaching, almost as big as the lesson itself. From my experiences most classes that have EBD and students with disabilities, you may have 5 students with special needs, 3 students that need to make up work, 3 disruptive students, 2 students with ADHD, 3 students who don’t have their books or home work, 6 students who decided not to bring a pencil and two who have no more notebook paper, and all of this is on the good days. Under these circumstances it is easy to see why a teacher wouldn’t be successful. An effective teachers best tool for situations like this is classroom management. While knowing your subject is the first step to being a good teacher, you wouldn’t be able pass the knowledge along to the students without effective discipline and clas sroom management. I think it’s inevitable that you’ll run into some problems but you learn on the job. It’s important to set rules and boundaries. I think kids like you better when you have structure. As the year goes on you can joke or have a light moment with them. That’s one of the things I like most about teaching, just those relationships. But if you break to early you can never go back. You can get less strict but not more. A teacher’s approach to classroom management will vary depending on factors like psychological, education level of the student, social, cultural, overall classroom level the physical conditions of the school and organization structure. Classroom management is the first and basic step of educational administration. Classroom is a place where in is ... ...cher and student believe in. A great deal of students with EBD or disabilities lack emotional discipline as well as maturity that are needed to remain on-task for any extended period of time. Reprimanding the students for their lapse in focus will not get them to get back on track but most likely cause them to withdraw even more. Building in short breaks or rest periods into your lessons is a great way to give the students a chance to shake of any frustration and remain on task. Strategies for teaching these kinds of students should be based around changing their behavior and making it more positive and more focused on education, rather then the traditional school format of lesson, lesson, lesson. The best classroom management systems are focused on including students and praising good accomplishments, rather then trying to discourage bad behavior though punishment.

Napoleon Bonaparte Essay

During Napoleon’s reign as Emperor of the French Empire he made laws, or a set of codes, that applied to all of France. He enacted laws that protected the people, promoted religious tolerance and took away the serfdom and feudalism systems, all of which gave people more freedom over their land to support themselves and their families. The well-being of the people was compromised since the workers lacked many rights, this being evident by the fact that trade unions and strikes were illegal, which encouraged employer abuse. One aspect of Napoleons opening up government positions other than the nobility class was that it would have provided officials who could sympathize with the commoners, and therefore would have brought fresh ideas to the French political scene. A downside to his rule was that he limited the freeness of speech and press by closely monitoring the press and prohibited any ideas that seemed to be against the French Emperor in his eyes; and also the French Police read peoples mail. Napoleon showed a keen interest in learning early on in life. It was primarily based on the desire to learn about new military strategies. On the contrary, he suppressed new ideas and learning from coming into the empire by quieting anybody who spoke or thought differently than himself. For example, Mme. Stael was a writer who had established a salon where European people with influence could come together and share new ideas with one another. Napoleon saw this as a threat to his power, so he shut down the salon and exiled Mme. Stael to Germany where she could no longer write and spread new ideas in his French domain. Napoleon promoted equality by allowing people from all social backgrounds to obtain government careers by based upon ability only as opposed to whose family you were born in, or what rank you had. Another way was by his changing the standards of aristocracy that was based upon ones merit in state service. He contradicted himself by claiming he had when equality for all citizens. Women were considered â€Å"less than equal† in the empire and  lacked many of the rights that men had, and was considered as a minor in court cases. RECOMMENDATIONS 1.If I were to grade Napoleon’s leader based on the principles of the Enlightenment I would give him a C. Because even though he did secure some freedom for the people, he still failed at equality for all people being taking so many freedoms away that the Revolution had made. 2.I would tell Napoleon to change his laws limiting women so much, otherwise he should stop saying â€Å"freedom for all!† 3.Should follow the philosopher Diderot and apply his ideas of social equality that would make a better society.

My Decision to Enroll in College Essay

People have different reasons and point of views why it is important for them to enroll in college. Basically, achieving a degree is a stepping stone to reach one’s goals. For me, I enroll in college, definitely, because it is a given fact and expectation that after high school, I need to choose a course and to enroll in an institution where I want to obtain my degree. First, I figure out what I want, what I really want to do in life. Whatever my decision is, it is anchored to what I yearn to do and to achieve in life. Definitely, I do study hard in order for me to achieve high grades and to have flying colors during graduation. I want to satisfy my parents’ expectations on me so I certainly do my best in every subject. I make sure that I devote my time equally; however, it is not always applicable in my schedule because there are times when I find it arduous to understand some of the topics in some of my subjects so I give more time on the difficult ones. I believe that learning is an on-going process. The strategies of my professors in presenting the lessons each day have a great impact on me. Whatever the technique is, it may be visual aids like movies, slide shows, etc, it definitely helps me in comprehending the lessons very well. Professors, indeed, affect my moods and enthusiasm. I like creative and unconventional professors. The professors and their teaching techniques and strategies contribute to my enthusiasm and motivation to do very well in class. Nevertheless, if I do not like the professor due to his/her temperament and conventional ways of teaching, I still do my best to grasp every learning and knowledge that s/he bestows. Because there are a lot of ways to learn, I believe that it is not just confined to the four-corner rooms of the university. Outside or extracurricular activities such as fieldtrips, research or case study competitions, internships or on-the-job trainings will definitely help me realize my potentials and will definitely aid me to reach for my goal. Gaining experiences outside school’s four-corner rooms enable me to be more confident, more competitive and more competent. I have been brought up by my parents in an authoritative way. They are neither over-protective nor over-domineering. They make me speak and explain my side every time I commit a mistake; in return, they do listen and reprimand me accordingly. For me, they are the best paragons. Because of that, I yearn to do the same for my children. I will not be the authoritarian parent just like some of my friends’ and classmates’ parents. If it is already time for them to enroll in college, I will just let them choose what course they want to take. I will not intervene with what they want because definitely, intervention to a person’s likes and wants affect his/her enthusiasm to perform well. The drive and the motivation to reach for their goals will, indeed, slow down. Advices, motivations and anecdotes from my experiences in college will help my children in challenging them to excel higher. If I have made it, I believe that they, too, can. From the very start, I will condition them to manage their time properly but not intervening too much to what they really want to do because I might suffocate them. They will just probably yearn to be a bird, not the droopy one†¦ but the free bird that spreads its wings and soars high. Enrolling in college and obtaining a degree are the stepping stones to have a good future, a stable job and a career. It helps people in realizing their goals and visions in life. My current career and our status in life is the best evident that I can show them with regards to the benefits of pursuing a degree in college. They need not be bums or dependents for the rest of their lives. Graduating in college allows a person to stand on their own feet. Whatever course they want to take, it is important for them to know that it is a competitive world out there. If someone yearns to have a high paying job, s/he must choose the in-demand courses like those under Technology, Business, etc. Each one must be acquainted with marketing strategies such as knowing the appropriate advertisements. Or being aware of the latest technology, which is now evolving to be wireless.

The Conflict Between Palestinian Arabs and Jews Essays

The Conflict Between Palestinian Arabs and Jews Essays The Conflict Between Palestinian Arabs and Jews Paper The Conflict Between Palestinian Arabs and Jews Paper The conflict between Palestinian Arabs and Jews (Israeli-Palestinian) has been an ongoing dispute, which began around the turn of the 20th century. Although these two groups have different religions, religious differences are not the cause of the conflict. It is essentially a struggle over land. Until 1948, the area that both groups claimed was known internationally as Palestine. But following the war of 1948-49, this land was divided into three parts: the state of Israel, the West Bank (of the Jordan River) and the Gaza Strip. The Arabs possessed the majority of the mandate. The British decided to withdraw from the area thereafter, the United Nations partitioned it creating Arab and Jewish states. This arrangement was rejected by the Arabs causing tension within the region. This Review will attempt to answer the question: How and why did the Palestine and Israeli dispute start. Hypothesis Statement: The conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Authority was caused by border disagreements and the right to reside in the same land. Case Study/Findings: Jewish claims to this land are based on the biblical promise to Abraham and his descendants. Palestinian Arabs claims to the land are based on continuous residence in the country for hundreds of years and the fact that they represented the demographic majority. They reject the notion that a biblical-era kingdom constitutes the basis for a valid modern claim. In 1947 the United Nations attempted to resolve the issues between these two religious groups. The UN divided Palestine into two states, one Jewish, one Arab. The region of Jerusalem and Bethlehem would be left an international zone as this area was claimed by both regions (Judaism and Muslim). The division of land was attempted evenly, but the Jewish state acquired a larger portion of land. The split also left Jews living in the Arab state and Arabs living in the Jewish state. The division left Palestinians very upset with the arrangement; they had to give up something that was already 100% theirs. As part of the UN resolution Britain was given oversight of the two states. In May 1948 Britain evacuated Palestine. Once the British gave up their reign, Zionist leaders stepped forward and declared the state of Israel. This infuriated the Palestinians even more. From 1948-1949 he Israel and Arab state went to war. The end result was Palestine being separated into 3 separate states each with their own political rule: Israel, the West Bank controlled by Jordan, and Gaza strip controlled by Egypt. The Palestine that was envisioned by the UN never came to exist. Ironically, the state of Israel was now made of 77% of the land that was once Palestine. Today this conflict is still ongoing; a hallmark of the conflict has been the level of violence witnessed for virtually its entire duration. Fighting has been conducted by regular armies, parliamentary groups and terror cells. Casualties have not been restricted to the military, with a large loss of civilian life on both sides. The case study findings support the hypothesis that the Israel and Palestinian dispute was caused by border disputes and the right to occupy the same land.

Ambulatory Care essays

Ambulatory Care essays Ambulatory emergency care or same-day emergency care is achieved by creating a whole system approach across primary and secondary care. This ensures that, where appropriate, patients are diagnosed and treated on the same day and then sent home with ongoing clinical supervision as needed. If implemented successfully, this approach has the potential to both improve patient experience and reduce costs. The Directory was published in 2007 by the NHS Institute, identifying 49 emergency conditions and clinical scenarios. (e.g. cellulitis) that have the potential to be managed on an ambulatory basis. The underlying principle is that admission to a hospital bed should only take place in the context of an acute illness that requires inpatient care. What Are the Prevention Quality Indicators? The PQIs are a set of measures that can be used with hospital inpatient discharge data to identify "ambulatory care sensitive conditions" The PQIs consist of the following 16 ambulatory care sensitive conditions, which are measured as rates of admission to the hospital: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) Diabetes short-term complication Diabetes long-term complication Angina without procedure Congestive heart failure (CHF) Lower-extremity amputation among patients with diabetes A ...

The central concepts of finance - Essay Example In this case therefore, as argued by Bodie, et al, (2011), if the market is not able to predict its fluctuations, but does asses them as being likely or less likely, then the likelihood can be accessed through mathematical process using the relevant information in the market. Thus, factors such as price reflect all the relevant information that is available in terms of the total value of an asset. With the introduction and analysis of the financial efficiency, this paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the market efficiency types and the approaches to test this efficiency. After the emergence of stock market, there was a widespread concern and controversy that made most of the investors to be keen when participating in the market. The situation was caused by the fact that their approach of making their profits seemed inappropriate. Considering that the stock market is an important component of the capital market, many economists in the world developed serious concerns and intere sts in exploring the trend of stock price. In this case, even though the intentions were different, there has been a central focus on the trend of the capital market in the global financial market. As the efficient market hypothesis became known to many, it became also an important part of the school of rational expectations theory, and one of the theoretical foundations of modern economic principles. As argued by the America financial economist, Fama (1965), if the market price fully reflect the all of available information.
